About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Fort Martin Power Station, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.[FOS]

Duties:

Mechanic performs duties in connection with the installation, removal, inspection, testing, replacement, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the mechanical equipment associated with power generation. Mechanic must perform operating duties as assigned:

  • Removing, cleaning, inspecting, and installing sliding surface and rolling contact bearings with fixed or adjustable running clearances.
  • Inspecting, repairing, and adjusting machines and equipment not requiring precision adjustment such as, but not limited to feeders, conveyors and unloaders.
  • Disassembling, inspecting, repairing, adjusting, and assembling hand operated or check valves requiring only lapping, part replacement, cleaning, and packing replacement.
  • Performing oxyacetylene cutting and shielded metal arc welding in the flat position. Performing soldering operations such as, but not limited to, joining copper fittings and valves to copper tubing.
  • Cleaning, adjusting, and repairing rotating electrical equipment such as AC and DC motors.
  • Safely operating the machine tools, hand tools, and rigging necessary to perform the duties of this level.
  • Cutting, fitting, and installing threaded pipe, valves, and fittings up to 2 inches with necessary support devices.
  • Installing soldered, glued and compression type tubing fittings.
  • Aligning belt and chain driven equipment, conveyor belts, and open straight cut gearing with methods not requiring precision measurement.
  • Must perform operating duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must possess an associates degree in an applicable field from an accredited college
  • In lieu of a degree, 3 years mechanical journeyman experience applicable to the work or three years military experience applicable to the work
  • Must pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection System (MASS) tests.
  • Mechanical skills and abilities.
  • Ability and willingness to work in high places, confined spaces, and near water.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to occasionally lift weights up to 50 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent walking, occasional standing, bending, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability and willingness to work indoors in a wide range of temperatures and some work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts, overtime, holidays, weekends, and call outs when needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work with vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong estimating and problem solving skills.
